AFL SEASON 2007
by John Loffler
PREVIEW ROUND 11
(Last week 3 from 8 total 45 from 80 =56.3%)
It was a devastatingly bad preview last week. Who would have thought that Carlton would break a 6 week losing streak, Richmond would finally score some premiership points with a draw, Essendon would beat the Swans by a point and Melbourne would finally win a game and it would all happen on the same weekend thus playing absolute havoc with the tipping?
On a weekend when the average tipping score was just a shade over 3 those tipsters who picked 5 or more showed true genius – not for football but for tipping the way they did on the right weekend. If I can use an excuse my poor previewing was probably a result of hearing the news that a pub I was fond of in my home town of Collingwood had received the okay to ban heterosexuals. No doubt a few of the old, tough bastards I knew that hung out in that pub turned in their graves when that bit of news hit the airwaves. I guess the suburb has changed somewhat.
With regard to the tipping preview maybe we’re giving the games too much thought. Let’s keep it simple this week okay?
Essendon V West Coast at Telstra Dome Friday Night
Hope it’s a cold night because the only suffering to be experienced after this game will be by the Eagles supporters who will have to take off their jackets to wave at Sheedy’s crew after the Eagles give them a footy lesson.

Hawthorn V Sydney at MCG Saturday Arvo
A difficult game to pick the winner and I suppose everybody will be getting on to the Hawthorn bandwagon after their great start to the season. So will I this week – good enough reason for you all to go the opposite and tip the Swans. So be it.

Brisbane Lions V Western Bulldogs Gabba Saturday Night
The Brisbane Lions are starting to show just where they should be sitting on the ladder and the Bulldogs need to show a d*mn site more than they did against the lowly Blues last week. I mean can you follow a team who murders the Pies in the second half of a game and then falls away in the same part of a game against Carlton? Inconsistency is the blight of a good tipster. Expect a comeback or expect another tipping point gone.

Carlton V Port Adelaide at Telstra Dome Saturday Night
Carlton kicked 130 points in their loss to the Kangaroos and kicked the sweep last week to beat the Bullies. The Power has lost a couple in a row and this might make three. The Blues fans will be on song: We are the navy blues, the good old navy blues……yep.

Adelaide V Geelong at AAMI Stadium Sunday
The Cats are sure on fire but are Adelaide good enough to put out the flame? Games are won by the team that can kick the most goals and Geelong has far more goal kickers than most teams. The Cats have no fear of AAMI having won there a couple of weeks ago. Amen.

St Kilda V Kangaroos at Telstra Dome Sunday Arvo
Expect the Kangaroos to bounce back after a thrashing by the Eagles last week. They will be seeking revenge for such a poor showing after winning 6 on the trot and will be far too hungry for an injury ridden Saints team. But, the Saints are due for a form reversal, I just hope it’s not this week.
Kangaroos by 27
Fremantle V Richmond at Subiaco Sunday arvo
The Tigers have yet to taste the sweetness of victory. This lack of sugar will continue this week.
Fremantle by 55
Collingwood V Melbourne at MCG Monday Arvo
Melbourne has finally found form and the ability to win just in time for the game against the Pies. Oh good-oh! Can Melbourne dream the impossible dream and put together two wins in a row. Probably but the safe bet is Collingwood.
