TRIBUNAL
Charges Laid:

Daniel Jackson (RICH), rough conduct against St. Kilda's Leigh Montagna: assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points), equaling four points, a Level One offense, 125 demerits and a one game suspension. He has no existing good or bad record and accepted, reducing the penalty 25% to 93.75 demerits and a reprimand with the demerits held over toward his future record.

Troy Cook (FRE), fined $3200 for a first offense of making negligent contact with umpire Ray Chamberlain. He accepted, reducing the fine 25% to $2400.

Tim Notting (BRIS), striking Geelong's Joel Selwood: assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point), equaling four points, a Level One offense, 80 demerits and a reprimand. He has no existing good or bad record and accepted, reducing the penalty 25% to 60 demerits, still a reprimand with the demerits held over toward his future record.

Grant Birchall (HAW), striking Sydney's Ryan O'Keefe: assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points), equaling four points, a Level One offense, 80 demerits and a reprimand. He has no existing good or bad record and accepted, reducing the penalty 25% to 60 demerits, still a reprimand with the demerits held over toward his future record.

Kasey Green (KANG), striking Bulldog Tom Williams:assessed as intentional conduct (three points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points), equaling seven points, a Level Four offense, 325 demerits and a three game suspension. He has no existing good or bad record and accepted, reducing the penalty 25% to 243.75 demerits and a two game suspension. This leaves Green unavailable for the Kangaroos' first two finals games.

Michael Newton (MELB), charging Carlton's Paul Bower: assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points), equaling five points, a Level Two offense, drawing 225 demerits, and a two game suspension. He has no existing good or bad record. Had he accepted, it would have been reduced a further 25% to 168.75 demerits and a one game suspension.

Newton opted to challenge the decision and was successful in having the classification downgraded from high to low contact. He told the hearing he turned his body in an effort to minimize contact when he realized a collision with Bower was inevitable after Bower had intercepted a pass from Demon Travis Johnstone. He testified in his defense that he believed he had made contact to Bower's back and not the head or neck area.
The panel accepted his version of the incident and reduced the offense to Level One, reducing the demerits below 100, and the penalty to a reprimand.
