Daniel Howe, 27, has retired while Carlton has delisted Josh Honey, Sam Philp and Lochie O’Brien. Brisbane small forward Nakia Cockatoo retired. Gold Coast has delisted Brodie McLaughlin and Jed Anderson while Charlie Constable has decided to retire to pursue other opportunities away from football. Plus, we have some trade notes in this report.

Howe was originally drafted by Hawthorn as a midfielder and defender. He played 96 games for the Hawks before being delisted at the end of 2021. He was drafted as a rookie by North Melbourne inn 2022 and played 10 games for the Kangaroos. North Melbourne general manager Todd Viney said, “Dan has only been at the club for one season, but he’s had a significant impact on the group in his time here. He brought a professional attitude to his training and preparation, and gave his all in every game he played, whether at AFL or VFL level."

Carlton drafted Honey in 2019 and he played 17 games. Philip was also drafted in 2019 but injuries restricted him to just two games. O'Brien was drafted in 2017 and played 66 games.

Cockatoo, 26, retired after an injury interrupted career which saw him play just 49 games. He was originally drafted by Geelong in 2014. He played 34 games and kicked 25 goals for the Cats before being traded to Brisbane at the end of 2021.General manager Danny Daly said, “Nakia is one of the nicest people you could meet in football and has been a much-loved member of our club that will be missed. Being a top 10 pick highlights the potential and talent Nakia had as a footballer, but unfortunately for him injuries and his body provided challenges throughout his career. However, to play 49 games of AFL football, including some of those being finals, is something he should still be very proud of ...".

McLaughin was an SSP selection by Gold Coast during the 2023 preseason. He was the leading goalkicker at VFL level but could not break through for a senior game for the Suns. Andresen was originally drafted by Hawthorn in 2012 and played 10 games. He requested a trade at the end of 2015 and crossed to North Melbourne where he played 89 games. He was delisted at the end of 2022 and picked up as a rookie by the Suns during the Supplemental Selection Period (SSP). Anderson took a leave of absence from the club in June. He failed to play any senior games and managed just eight games at VFL level. Constable was originally drafted by Geelong in 2019 and played 12 games for the Cats. He was delisted at the end of 2021 and drafted by the Suns in 2022 but played just four games. Anderson and McLaughlin were members of the Suns' VFL premiership win.

TRADE NOTES
Several players have requested trades. Essendon's Brandon Zerk-Thatcher has requested a trade back home to South Australia with Port his destination choice. Sun Mabior Choi, who seems to have fallen out of favor, has requested a trade and nominated Hawthorn as his preference. Adelaide defender Tom Doedee, who has been sidelined most of the season with a knee injury, has requested a trade to Brisbane. Carlton's Zac Fisher has requested a trade to North Melbourne for better playing opportunities.
