by Lisa Albergo reporting for AFANA from Chicago
Charges Laid:
Adam Cooney (WB), striking Geelong's Cameron Ling: assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point), equaling five points, Level Two offense, 125 demerits and a one game suspension. He has no existing good or bad record and accepted, reducing the penalty 25% to 93.75 demerits and a reprimand.
Justin Koschitzke (STK), striking Hawthorn's Robert Campbell: assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points), equaling six activation points, a Level Three offense, 225 demerits and a two game suspension. He has no existing good or bad record and accepted, reducing the penalty 25% to 168.75 points and a one game suspension.
Nigel Lappin (BRIS, making negligent contact with umpire Gary Fila: he accepted reducing the first offense fine of $3200 by 25% to a fine of $2400.
The match day report of Melbourne's Simon Godfrey for front on contact with Kangaroo Scott McMahon was assessed by the MRP. The panel ruled that Godfrey, who was pursuing Kangaroo Brent Harvey was not responsible for the bump on McMahon. The panel, in making their assessment, stated that Godfrey's view of McMahon was blocked by Harvey as McMahon bent over in an effort to retrieve the ball. McMahon, with his weight on his left foot, attempted to tap the ball to Harvey with his right hand and subsequently fell over to his right and into Godfrey's path. Godfrey, it was ruled, had no chance to change direction to avoid contact with McMahon. The report was dismissed.
