Shortly after Carlton signed two players under the SSP rule, Richmond followed suit by signing midfield speedster Sydney Stack from WA club Perth to a rookie contract. Stack, 18, was overlooked in the AFL Draft but has been training with the Tigers since December. He performed well during the Under-18 tournament earning All-Australian honors. The club list is now complete with the Tigers also having signed former Saint Maverick Weller.

Essendon's Luke Lavender has retired, citing his struggle with injuries behind his decision. Lavender was drafted in 2017 as a Category B rookie after crossing from cricket. He played 11 games in the VFL in 2018 but was hampered by injuries and required post-season surgery on his shoulder. He realized his body could not cope with the demands of footy. While disappointed, he expressed his gratitude to the Bombers for giving him a chance. "
General Manager Dan Richardson thanked the South Australian for his contribution and said his decision to retire came after ongoing discussions. Although this leaves an open spot on the club's list, Richardson explained that Lavender was "... listed as an alternate talent ... " on the rookie list, the club would not look for a replacement under the SSP rule.
