Carlton defender Lachie Plowman has retired. Hawthorn delisted Josh Morris, Emerson Jeka, and released Fionn O'Hara. North Melbourne said goodbye to Lachie Young, Flynn Perez, Phoenix Spicer, and Jacob Edwards.

Plowman, 29, was originally drafted by GWS in 2012 and played 20 games for the Giants before being traded to Carton at the end of 2015. He played 125 games for the Blues. In 2019, Plowman enjoyed a breakthrough season, playing every game and finishing third in the best and fairest count. A beloved member of the playing group, Plowman established himself as a player with a team-first attitude, who was often required to take the most dangerous small forwards from opposing teams.

In making the announcement, he said, “I could not have asked for much more than to have been part of the AFL for such a significant period of my life. “The club has been the best environment to come to work every day, the challenging moments, the winning ones, I would not change them for the world. Thank you to all my coaches, teammates and everyone at the Blues for their belief in me, and their support. Thank you also to my family and partner, who were with me every step along the way. One of my favorite parts of my career is having the opportunity to share it all with you.”

Coach Michael Voss credited Plowman’s faultless commitment to the club, “Few players represent the Carlton Football Club for eight years, let alone play over 10 years of AFL football, that is an achievement Lachie should be incredibly proud of. You would struggle to come across a nicer, more thoughtful person than Lachie. The energy he brought ... was highly valued and will be missed ... Arguably the biggest compliment you could give Lachie as a player was the reliability and trust he had with his teammates, which he had built and earned over a long period of time ... ".

Shortly before the Grand Final, Hawthorn delisted Josh Morris and Emerson Jeka while Fionn O'Hara and the club mutually decided to part ways. Morris was drafted in 2018 but injuries restricted him to 15 games. Jeka was drafted as a rookie in 2019 and played seven games. O'Hara came from Ireland as a Category B rookie in 2021 but never played senior game.

At the same time, North Melbourne delisted Lachie Young, Flynn Perez, Phoenix Spicer, and Jacob Edwards. Young was drafted by the Bulldogs in 2019 and played eight games before being traded to the Kangaroos at the end of 2020. He played 39 games for North. Spicer was drafted in 2020 and played 18 games. Edwards was a 2021 midseason rookie selection but never played a senior game.
