Charges Laid:
Daniel Merrett (BRIS), rough conduct against Collingwood's Anthony Rocca: assessed as negligent contact (one point), medium impact (two points) and body contact (one point), equaling four points, Level One offense, 125 demerits and a one game suspension. He has no prior record, good or bad and accepted, reducing the penalty 25% to 93.75 demerits and a reprimand.
Setanta Broadband has begun coverage of the AFL following the same schedule for live and repeat matches as that of Setanta US. (This was effective with Round 1 of 2008 however Setanta made no public announcement and did not notify AFANA.) This is great news for fans who lost coverage due the demise of ITVN and those who want to view footy via their computers without the issues of the AFL web site. Fans may subscribe at: Setanta Broadband . Viewers in Canada will use the same link as a separate feed for Canada is not yet available. The cost is US$14.99 per month or $149.99 per year. AFANA will be updating our TV pages over the next several days to reflect this very positive development and and make it part of our TV schedules. We will be working with Setanta on ways to get the word out to fans who need to know.

Aussie Rules will continue broadcast each Monday at 8 PM EST, with a repeat at 11 PM, throughout the season.

Irish Discussions In Dubai
Officials from the AFL and GAA met last month in Dubai during the Collingwood-Adelaide preseason game to discuss the future of the International Series. The GAA made a number or proposals for regulating the game and penalty procedures which the AFL will need to approve. The recommendations were:

Western Australian football fans celebrated the first round of the AFL’s 150th year by packing Subiaco Oval to capacity and cheering the West Coast Eagles to a 16 point win over the feisty Brisbane Lions. In an entertaining and high intensity game, the West Coast put paid to the thoughts they might struggle to overcome the loss of sensational midfielders Chris Judd (traded to Carlton) and Ben Cousins (suspended for 12 months) while the Lions showed that they should not be underestimated in season 2008.
